Voice Acting, Boo the Yorkie, & Steampunk!

I recently answered questions posed by writer and blogger Kyle Overstreet.

KO: Tell us about your acting career!

I’m primarily a voice actor. This means that I spend most of my days in a soundproof box talking to myself. A voice actor provides the speech that you hear on commercials, websites, audiobooks, video games, etc. I work from my studio at home and also at commercial studios in New York and Connecticut. My clients range from global companies such as GE and IBM to mom and pop stores creating their first websites.

The best part of an acting career is that you get to work with so many creative people – writers, sound engineers, producers, and other actors. The main key to success in this industry is the ability to produce a good take consistently under pressure. When you have a dozen marketing folks calling in to listen to your live performance of their script, you want to make sure that everyone loves what they hear.

Studio Dog Boo!

KO: I want to know all about Boo the Yorkie!

Boo (short for Boudicca) is my rambunctious Yorkshire Terrier puppy. She travels with me to many of my studio sessions, where she naps on a cushion while I perform!

Boo is an accomplished young lady. She loves agility, K-9 nose work, obedience, learning tricks, and taking part in barn hunt competitions. Her greatest achievement so far is becoming a registered Pet Partners therapy dog. We visit hospitals, colleges, and charity events to comfort folks who are going through difficult times. Weighing in at six pounds six ounces, she is small enough not to intimidate people who might be afraid of larger dogs.

Boo is also cast as one of the characters in my current WIP The Brass Queen. She feels there is a distinct shortage of Yorkshire Terriers in science fiction which needs to be addressed!

KO: You have so many steampunk links! Do you cosplay? RPG? Write?

All of the above! I love science fiction and fantasy in general and steampunk in particular. My WIP is an alternate history adventure with a steampunk aesthetic. I regularly attend conventions, sometimes in cosplay.

I’m also an avid gamer. I currently play Star Wars: The Old Republic,  and I just finished Mass Effect: Andromeda.  I’m looking forward to the launch of  Star Citizen.

Thank you to Kyle for conducting for conducting this interview. Please check out Kyle’s blog at your earliest opportunity.

    Fun and informative interview.

First, thanks for visiting my website and liking my review of The Secret Garden.

Second, I was fascinated by your site especially as a fan of steampunk and Doctor Who – when I was a TV producer, I got to work with two favourite Doctors, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker.

Finally, SWTOR. My wife and I both play SWTOR as well as other MMORPGs. We met online in Perfect World and never looked back. (And we have a Chorkie called Treeky…after the SWTOR Ewok mercenary companion.)

Thank you for visiting my site. It’s lovely to hear from a fellow Whovian. How fabulous it must have been to work with Messrs. Pertwee and Baker! The latter will always be “my” Doctor, although I enjoy the new series too. I also play SWTOR with my spouse. We both agree that Treeky is the perfect name for a Chorkie!
